「問題」を表す英単語ってtroubleとかproblemとかいろいろある！違いは何？どうやって使い分けるの？
こんな疑問に答える記事を書きました！
英語を勉強しているときに、同じ意味なのにたくさんの単語が出てきてしまうと困ってしまいますよね。
今回は「問題」を表す英単語の違いを英英辞書で調べて、明らかにしていきます！
先にこの記事の結論を出すと、以下のようになります。
trouble：不可算名詞 問題、困ったこと（ネガティブ）
problem：可算名詞 解決策がある（求められる）問題
「ネガティブな問題」に広く使える一般的な語
フォーマル度：低
issue：議論のトピックの意味での「問題」、政治などの「問題」

troubleのポイントは、「不可算名詞」であること。一般的には、in trouble（困った状況にある）とか、have trouble with/-ingの形で使われることが多いです。
「不可算名詞」であることという特徴を除けば、problemとほぼ似た感じで使えます！

problemは、普通「解決策があること」について使います。問題の深刻さに関わらず、ネガティブな「困ったこと」を表すかなり一般的な語です。
例文を見てもわかるように、可算名詞なのでa problemやsome problemsのように使えます。

issueのポイントは、「話し合い」や「議論」と関係のある語だということ。政治的な話題やディベートのトピックについて言いたいときに使うことが多いです。
problemは常にネガティブなイメージを持つ（誰かが失敗したり、実際に問題が起きていることを指す）のに対して、issueはネガティブさが少なめな響きを持っています。
フォーマルさで言えば、issueの方がproblemよりもフォーマルです。
matterの意味・例文

matterのポイントは、あまりネガティブな意味がないこと。場合によっては、「関心事」や「案件」と言い換えることもできます。そして、比較的フォーマルに使う語です。
「問題」以外の意味としては、物理学で「物質」を表すのにもmatterは使われます。もちろん、これにネガティブなニュアンスは含まれません。ただ「存在」を表すだけです。
「問題」を表すtrouble, problem, issue, matterを正しく使い分けて英語力をさらに高めよう！
